    1. Check your progress on Progressbook. Double check my record-keeping, too! Complete any reassessment or make-up work, or finish up your final draft and submit.

    Tuesday

    The activities for the rest of the week are meant to help us connect and reflect as you close out this chapter of your life. Congratulations, seniors!

    Honors English 12 Reflection: Review the list of units and their main activities below. Offer constructive feedback on what we did in Honors English 12. The more specific you can be, the more helpful your responses are!

     Answer the following questions by completing the linked form below. The same questions and information appear in the form. (5 points)

    1st Quarter: writing resumes, cover letters, and personal narratives for college or job applications

    2nd Quarter: reading Hamlet and studying character, writing a literary analysis essay

    3rd Quarter: studying satire in “A Modest Proposal” and comedy sketches; reading, analyzing, and writing love poetry

    4th Quarter: listening to Hamilton: An American Musical, thinking about the greater social and political significance of the musical, and writing our own position papers

    Wednesday

    Reaching Out: Our current situation has reminded us of our need to be with others and communicate with them. Being apart can make communication more difficult, but it also emphasizes how important and meaningful sharing our lives is.

    Choose one of the following letters to write. This letter doesn’t have to be long (4-6 sentences would be great!), but make sure you state your ideas clearly and specifically! You can draft your letter in a Word doc and share it with me. Then you can make a final copy in an email, a notecard, or a letter as you wish. I will not be checking to make sure you send it to the individual! (5 points)

    1. Write a thank you note to someone who has played a key role in your first eighteen years. This could be a teacher, a parent, a relative, a friend, or anyone else who made a difference in your life and helped you. Tell that person what they did to make your life better or to help you accomplish your goals.

    2. Reach out to someone whom you have not seen or talked to lately. This distance could be because of the stay-at-home order, or just because of life’s other obstacles. Let that person know about your life and that you miss them!

    3. Write a letter offering advice to the Class of 2021. What do they need to know about senior year? What should they remember to think about or appreciate? What do you wish you had known at the start of your senior year that you now know? Full disclosure: I plan to save these and use them in my classroom (anonymously) next year.

    Thursday

    Humor and Grace: This time has been difficult for many reasons. We have lost our daily routines and daily social interactions, we have lost jobs and our finances have been endangered, we have lost some of our freedoms and our innocent assumptions of what the future will begin. Some of us may have lost friends and loved ones to COVID-19. Humor is a way to deal with strong emotions: frustration, disappointment, and loss. Grace is also a way to approach these emotions by finding new ways to accept, to forgive, and to act positively in a world that might seem overwhelmingly negative. Choose one of the following activities to share your humor or your grace with your classmates.

    Please post your contribution to a slide in the PowerPoint slideshow I will share with all 4 classes through email. I am sharing so you can hear each other’s voices and share your experiences even if we cannot be together in the classroom for your last week of your senior year. Please respect our public forum by using language and references appropriate to the classroom and sensitive to the variety of experiences that we have had. You can use backgrounds, colors, fonts, pictures, etc., to make your slide fun for your classmates to view. (5 points)

    1. Create a meme or share a meme that you have seen that captures some part of your current experience. This could be about schools closing and learning remotely, the COVID-19, the stay-at-home order, or it could be more specifically about seniors’ experiences because of the pandemic.

    2. Share your best quarantine-related observations and discoveries. These could be activities, habits, experiences, or wisdom, that you came to have because of the stay-at-home order. These should be positive, unexpected bonuses that came about because of the changes in our lives.
